Every public leader, regardless of a political party, wants the economy and employment restored. However, there seems, as they're often doing, to be a significant difference between what this means and represents, to different individuals!

Simply pumping - in dollars, is not a long - term solution. One reality is, our economy, had certain weaknesses, before this pandemic, but, were somewhat, disguised, because of the over a trillion dollars, the government pumped - in, via, so-called, tax reforms (a major reason for the nearly trillion-dollar deficit), artificially - low - interest rates, and, a variety of programs, which had the effect, of supporting/ helping the largest corporations, and, wealthiest Americans.

 If we hope, to bring the nation back, financially and economically, after this horrific period, we will have to think - outside - the - box, and recognize, the New Normal, at least for the foreseeable future, may look far different. With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 aspects, which might have to change.

1. Changing small retail: 

Many experts predict, a quarter, or more, of existing small retailers, may never reopen, and/ or if they do, it will be short-lived! With occupancies, probably, reduced, and other, safety and public health measures, required, the challenges may become overwhelming!

2. Changes in larger retail:

 We already know, several larger retail establishments, who, have announced, they have closed their doors, forever, and/ or, entered bankruptcy, and will significantly reduce their operations, and a number of stores, as a result. The cost of doing business, and the ever-expanding scope and expanse of internet businesses (referred to an email), will be challenges, which might change the way, we do business, in the future!

3. Restaurants: 

A well - respected, restaurant booking application, states, they believe a quarter of the restaurants, will never reopen their doors! The expanded period of mandated closings, combined with the challenges of the industry, are compounded by the expected new restrictions (occupancy, and others), and some consumer's fear of returning soon!

4. Offices/ commerce:
 We can probably expect changes, in the way, many companies, run their businesses. Most models expect less space, and more telecommuting, combined with plexiglass partitions, and other safety measures, and far more Social Distancing. In addition, because of economic and emotional realities/ reasons/ fears, it won't be surprising to see, Split Shifts!

5. Jumpstart the economy:
 New York's Governor Andrew Cuomo, suggests, we need to jumpstart the economy, suggesting needed infrastructure-related projects, should be encouraged, etc. How we re-envision life, and the way, we conduct business, will probably have a major impact!

We cannot afford to get this wrong, which means, we can't reopen too soon, improperly, or without away, to prevent this from recurring! Demand sustainable solutions, instead of empty rhetoric and promises. Larger commercial buildings, large shopping malls, and Main Street retail/ commerce, as well as transportation, are among the potentially, greatest challenges!

Because I prefer, desire, and demand, my public officials, honor all the Constitutional guarantees, instead, of only those, which they desire, and expect genuine integrity, many people, who feel, similarly, can no longer stand, even, listening to him! With that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, consider, examine, review, and discuss, 5 factors/ behaviors, that make so many of us, feel this way.

1. Tone, and lack of genuine empathy:

 How often, have we witnessed, any degree of genuine empathy, articulated by this President? Doesn't it, often, seem to be, more about him, and his personal/ political agenda, and self - interests, than the greater good? We feel it should be concerning, his message, seems so fluid and contradictory, and his tone is polarizing and adversarial, rather than unifying!

2. Lies constantly: 

Several political fact-checkers proclaim, our present occupant of the White House has told more lies, and made more, misleading statements, than anyone else, in recent memory! While, we don't always, know, immediately, when someone misstates the facts, etc, in this age of videotape, and the Internet, there have been thousands of these types of behaviors, documented, during his tenure, in office.

3. Apparent lack of well-considered plan: 

Effective planning, and thorough knowledge of ramifications, and alternatives, should be the minimum, we can expect, from any public leader! President Trump, often, seems to be, either, not ready, willing, and/ or, able, to take the time, and make the real effort, to gain this knowledge, and expertise.

4. Like fingernails on a blackboard: 

Have you ever listened to any speaker, and something, about them, gives you a feeling, similar to, fingernails on a blackboard? Although, perhaps, more figurative, than actual, it often, creates, a degree of annoyance, and discomfort, where someone, loses faith and patience, in the speaker, and tends to avoid, even, listening to that person! How can any public official make a difference, for the better, until/ unless, he can really, communicate, with most others?

5. Politics/ rhetoric/ vitriol; Feels like he wastes our time:

 There's a place for politics, but, why are so few, unable/ unwilling, to transform themselves, from being a politician to becoming a true statesman? President Trump, seemingly, proceeds, constantly, with a focus on politics, and uses rhetoric, and a level of vitriol, which pits one American against another! After more than three years, many, try to avoid, even listening to his statements, because, they feel, he wastes our time, and provides little relevant information, of significance!

Quitting smoking may be one of the hardest things you have ever done in your life, but its fruits begin to show even after the first 24 hours. Greatest ODI Finisher of All Time! 


MS Dhoni

I had planned to write the article after Dhoni retires. But I can't bear the waiting any longer. Mirror mirror on the wall. Who is the greatest finisher of them all? Well, all that apart, the only real contestants being called the greatest one-day cricket finishers of all time are Greatest ODI Finisher of All Time! Bevan or MSD: and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Nope does not make the mistake of comparing them as cricketers because Dhoni with his versatility will win hands down. Just compare them as ODI finishers. That's what I am out to do today. I came up with some interesting facts and stats while doing so.

Let's first list some candidates"SPORTSBOOK" who deserve although not in the same league as these two specialists. Some of them are Lance Kluesner, Virat Kohli, Sachin Tendulkar, Mike Hussey, AB De Villiers, and VIA Richards arguably the greatest one-day batsman of all time. He and Sachin will say no we do not need a finisher. We can finish the match a long time before the overs are completed with available resources at the other end. But that is another story and another breed of batsmen.

By finisher do we mean a batsman who remains not out at the end when an inning is over? Nope. I mean the batsman who finished the match and won it for his team is the greatest finisher. In most cases, such an inning will result in the batsman remaining not out at the end. But there are many an innings in which the batsman had pretty much finished it before getting out. 
Sachin Tendulkar at Sharjah in 1998 against Australia played two magical century innings, one to propel India into the finals and the second to win the final for India. He got out in both the innings. But it was finishing of the highest order and did the job for his country very effectively indeed. And this is where Bevan and Dhoni come into the picture. They made a real difference when it mattered most to their teams. And they did it many times. This fact alone leaves clear daylight between them and the others.

The best qualities of MS Dhoni is that he is calm about everything when everyone in the stadium and watching the match on TV is about to have a heart attack. This was pretty much the case with Michael Bevan as well. But Bevan had solid batsmen keeping him company during his time such as Waugh brothers, Damien Martyn, etc. Dhoni also benefitted from these batsmen at the other end but more towards the end of his career.

 They were both outstanding runners between wickets. More than that, they were excellent judges of runs. They knew when to convert a single into two and a two into three, and also when to not take the risk. This increased the pressure on the opposition a great deal. Not only the boundaries kept coming but the running between wickets killed the match for the opposition.

One area where Dhoni stands out is big hitting. He can hit sixes and Bevan, on the other hand, was not a big hitter. He could hit out if required but not with the same consistency as Dhoni. That to my mind is the real difference between the two. Bevan has won as many matches for his team as Dhoni did but with caresses and pushes rather than the controlled hitting of Dhoni. A finisher needs temperament and they both had it. I am saying "were" though Dhoni is still around. But I believe we have seen his best.

Most Indians will point at career strike rate to tilt the balance in Dhoni's favor but Bevan played in a slightly different era where the batsmen did not score at the same rate as today apart from the Tendulkars, Waughs, and Laras obviously. And the teams also did not amass the same totals as today. 

So this statistic does not do justice to Bevan. They both have great batting averages in the excess of 50s. They absolutely killed the opposition with exquisite finishing. No matter how they did it, by running around or hitting out, it was clinical.

Dhoni finishing is about his ability to do both: big-hitting and nudges and pushes and runs like a hare. Also, Dhoni played in an era when there was a lot of cricket played and he had to perform multiple roles in T20s, ODIs, Tests and IPL. This alone is backbreaking. While Bevan played ODI cricket basically along with the first-class matches and a little bit of test match cricket.

 Less stress definitely than compared to modern cricketers like Dhoni. Maintaining fitness in such cases is very difficult. Dhoni has managed this but Bevan struggled towards the end of his career with a series of fitness problems.

Most mortal cricketers in this world panic when the difference between the numbers of balls left and runs to get starts to get out of hand but not these two. It was just unbelievable to watch them keeping their calm and going about their job as if it was everyday chores. What these guys are made up of can be seen with finishing no one else can repeat so many times. 

Many great cricketers have graced the game and a lot of them have played stellar roles in their teams winning. But finishing the matches victoriously for their teams so many times? No. No one! These two just cannot be beaten at that.


Bevan was a part of two world cup winning squads in 1999 and 2003. It is noteworthy that Australia was at the top of their game when he was playing ODI cricket and was in his prime. Dhoni won the single ODI WC victory for India in 2011 although he is still playing and I am sure is eyeing the 2019 world cup as his last hurrah.

Bevan has the highest batting average for a retired ODI cricketer of 53.58 while Dhoni averages 51.37 at the moment and will end up around 50. This also doesn't indicate any clear advantage for Bevan because Dhoni would take more risks and as a result, would have a better strike rate than Bevan who will have a slightly better average. Both of them played and won matches playing with tail-enders and many times. 

I cannot describe in words how unbelievable it was to watch these men do it over and over again.

Another critical point that goes against Dhoni is the pitches he played on. Bevan played on large Australian grounds which make hitting sixes difficult while Dhoni batted at a time when the game was tailor-made for batsmen and on Indian conditions which have always been friendly to batsmen. 

Though Bevan comes from an all Aussie domination era where the team was on a roll, Dhoni busted the Indian habit of being poor chasers. That is his greatest achievement really for his country. It is no mean achievement, allow me to tell you, as I have seen Indian cricket since the 1980s and this had become a minor crisis back then.


I have tried hard not to compare them as overall cricketers and talk about Dhoni captaincy or Bevan left-arm spin bowling. These were like bonuses to their teams. I am not going to discuss the Bevan test record either as again that is irrelevant to the topic. You can compare their stats all you want, all day. You will find them counterbalance each other in the end. But despite considering everything I still cannot ignore the huge difference in strike rate. It is 15 points and I think that is the real and telling difference. Need I say more?

Trail Of Tears; Medjugorje is a village in Bosnia where Mother Mary has been appearing to six visionaries since June 1981. The apparitional occurrences continue at Medjugorje as of today. On many occasions, the apparition has appeared there with tearful eyes. Our Lady appeared at La Salette in France with a sad face and tearful eyes in 1846. She is like a mother sitting by the side of a child who is comatose; the world is in a spiritual coma. Some say that she is like a mother jumping into the fire in the house to save the children and the world is caught up with spiritual fire.

What is stress?

 SELF CARE; Stress is made of stressful thoughts and images in the mind, a rush of adrenaline, and corresponding sensations and tensions in the body. Anxiety and fear are other words for stress. Fear is as natural and healthy a response as is the pain we feel when we put our hand in the fire.

Fear is a helpful message that says, "Danger! Pay attention! Take care!" The question is, is there real danger (immanent), or is it imagined danger, like the thought, "I won't be able to get it all done", and the feeling that something awful will happen if I don't?

Usually, when we talk about stress management, we are talking about ways of getting rid of or reducing tension or fear. For SELF CARE The only way to reduce fear is to feel safe again. Fear/stress activates our fight/flight/freeze response so we can get back to safety.

But what happens when we cannot find our way back to safety, as in our fear of failing to complete our dissertations or getting our degrees; or fear of losing our loved ones; or fear of losing our health, etc.? We remain in the fight/flight response longer than is healthy for our bodies, so they start shutting down to conserve energy. This shows up as tiredness, fatigue, lack of energy, loss of motivation, or depression.

To feel safe again in the face of failure and loss;

 SELF CARE We can come to accept these as inevitable in life and to realize that, while uncomfortable and painful, they are not dangerous. We have all already survived both. They are like an injury or illness from which we heal.

I am reminded of the quote from At the Will of the Body by Arthur Frank, to paraphrase, "Every time we get ill or become injured at some level we fear our death, yet we recover from every injury or illness until we encounter the one from which we do not recover".

This brings us squarely to our inevitable existential fear of death, which we all-too-successfully deny (see The Denial of Death by Ernest Becker), yet of which we are inevitably and frequently reminded.

There is a saying that states, 

"F E A R can mean two things - Forget Everything And Run, or Face Everything And Rise. SELF CARE We can spend the rest of our lives running and distracting and avoiding, or we can find the courage to face our fears and rise above them to do what we love and live our lives fully until we die. We get to choose. Only one of them qualifies as self-care.

Kelly McGonigal found research that shows that stress is not bad for us. What is bad for us is the belief that it is bad for us. The people who died from stress were only those who believed stress was bad for them.

To summarize, the impulse to manage stress is probably always motivated by our fear and resistance to our stress, which only adds to our stress. It is not stressed that needs to be managed, but our response to stress.

When we respond to stress by simply acknowledging, allowing, and accepting it, we are switching off the sympathetic nervous system and switching on the parasympathetic nervous system that returns us to calm. We could call this "permission to be stressed".

When I first learned of this, I'd tell myself, "I get to be as stressed as I need to be for as long as I need to be", to counter the years of messaging that told me that I should not be stressed, I had no reason to be stressed, and to get over it. Meeting stress with acceptance is self-compassion and is the first step back to our longed-for calm. This is self-care in the face of stress.
